It's Been Forever

Well I know I haven't posted in forever.  I have been super busy!  I took on 3 week old puppies and had to bottle feed them so that took a lot of my time, plus there hasn't been too much change in the cats.

We have decided to keep Purdy though.  My 2 year old is very attached to her and takes her everywhere he goes.  And she is very attached to him as well.  So that just leaves the boys needing new homes.

I've decided to just do a free to good home route with them, but they don't come with the perks of the $70 adoption fee.  So if you want one of the boys let me know!

1 Down 3 To Go!

Helen was adopted!  Helen has a nice home now where she is currently the only baby in the house.  I saw her a couple days after she left and she didn't want to leave her new momma to come to me!  It was sad and happy all at the same time.  I'm so glad that she loves them so much!

As far as the others they are growing so fast!  We have discovered that Miss Purdy LOVES baths!  Yup, you read that right!  I was bathing my 2 kids and se was under foot as always.  She was trying to get in the tub so I said FINE!  I had the kids scoot away and put her in.  And she stayed in there purring and licking the water for over 5 minutes!  We were all in shock!  So apparently Purdy is a water loving cat who loves to ride on your shoulder like a parrot.  :)  Oh and she loves big calm dogs!  She was cuddling with our English Mastiff the other night.

Gnomeo is the ring leader for all the running around and attacking things.  He can kick Simba's booty all over the house.  And he chases the dogs around too.

Simba is just Simba.  He's a sweetie that loves to run and jump, but loves to cuddle and purr too!

Adoption Info

Ok, I have decided on the adoption fee finally!

$70- the kitten will be spayed or neutered and first set of shots.  I had to shop around which is why it took me so long to come up with an amount.

If you're interested in adopting one of the kittens email Miranda@BigDogSupps.com and include the following:

Your Name:
Which Kitten You're Interested In:
How Many Pets You Currently Have And What They Are:
Your Vet (If You Don't Have Pets This Is Not An Issue):

I am very sad to see these kittens go, but I know they each deserve loving homes of their own.

Thank you!

Vet Visit

So I took the kittens to the vet this morning and GREAT news!!!

Simba has the all clear!  So long as there's no gunk coming out of his eyes and they don't get red again he is done with all the meds!!!!  Woot Woot!!!!!!

Gnomeo will not need stitches again as of now.  The hole is closing up on it's own and the vet would rather not put Gnomeo through that and neither would I!  His other eye is doing great and no longer needs meds!

Purdy has the 1/2 clear.  Her right eye no longer needs meds and has been confirmed by the vet as useless. It will stay in there unless it gets infected and poses trouble.  Her other eye still needs meds to stay moist on one part where the eye lid is actually attached to the eyeball!  The vet thinks this could be a birth defect and be why the kittens got the virus so bad in the first place!

Helen also has the 1/2 clear.  Her left eye no longer needs meds and should be just fine.  The right eye is like Purdy's left.  Attached eye lid.  It's a creepy looking thing too!!!

All in all I'm very pleased with the kittens progress as is the vet!!!

For those of you who came out to the bake sale you probably saw the kittens running around.  Some people made comments about them not being blind.  When I got the kittens they were pretty much blind.  We/I did not expect them to regain any sight at all let alone the amount that the did regain.  Simba's vision is normal, or close enough.  Purdy and Gnomeo have some (or a lot in Gnomeo's case) issues with depth perception, neither can see on one side of their body, but otherwise seem fine.  Helen is the worst.  She has one eye that is useless and the other is about 50%.  She tends to stay close to you or the wall and doesn't really like to run.  She runs more at the store then at home because there's bigger open spaces.  She does run into things at times but for the most part is learning to cope with her issues.  :)  I just felt like some people might have thought I was lying about their sight issues to get more money or something.  I am being as honest as I can and have no issues with people questioning where the money went.  So far $110 went to the vet today for the check up, 1/2 the surgery, and a tube of meds.  The rest will go to kitten food which I am almost out of, toys for the Mice Hunters, and the rest will be saved in case there's another vet visit.  I have spent my own money on the kittens, over $100 already, plus a $40 donation from Tiffany the first rescuer.  So I'm not in this to make money, believe me.  I am going to work on applications for adopting the Mice Hunters and there will be a fee that goes with them.  I haven't decided on the fee yet and it will depend on a couple things.  I will let you know as soon as I know though!  Thank you guys so so so much!!!!

THANK YOU!!!

Thank you to everyone who came out and donated to the kittens!!!  We raised $184!!!  That will cover the $75 for the 2nd payment of Gnomeo's surgery, the $17 I owe for the second thing of meds, and then hopefully whatever else has to happen to Gnomeo after the vet looks at him tomorrow.  :(

Gnomeo's eye seemed to be opened more on Saturday then it was on Friday.  I can't really tell today though.  It has a scab on it and besides the putting medicine on it I don't want to mess with it and open it even more.  So he goes BACK to the vet Monday.  *Sigh*  Poor little guy will have gone through so much in his life by the time he's 3 months old.

Other then that nothing else to report.  :)  I shall update tomorrow after another vet visit.

T Minus 12 Hours

There's less than 12 hours until the bake sale!  I'm really excited and a bit nervous!  What if a million people show up?  What if no one shows up?  What if I don't raise enough money to cover the vet bill?  Is Helen Keller of Troy going to have her eye removed as well?  What if, what if, what if????  Well either way the kittens will get the care they need!  No matter what I'll get these kittens what they need.

Ok, no more what if's!!!  We had a scare with Gnomeo last night!  When I got home from the night running around I do I went to see the Mice Hunters.  All of them attacked me as usual, except Gnomeo.  He was sitting in the doorway between my room and bathroom with his back to me.  I called him and he looked at me, and I saw it.  Blood.  First thought I can't publish on a attempted PG rated site, but it wasn't good.  After closer inspection it wasn't as bad as I first thought, but I still wasn't happy about it.  So this morning we took him back the the awesome vet and had Gnomeo looked at.  Luckily it was just a small cut/opening in his stitches that the vet didn't see the need to do anything to other than the normal keep clean and watch for infection.  :)

Helen is finally able to close her eye by herself!  She was not able to do this because her eye was too dry and infected.  This is really awesome because then she might not have to have the eye removed.  Only time will tell with that one.

Well I am off to get ready for the bake sale tomorrow!  Cake pops (I'm REALLY excited about these), homemade banana bread, cookies, lemon bars, fudge, brownies, and more!!!!  YUMMY!!!  I still have to make the signs for tomorrow and maybe, just maybe get up at 6 and make lemon meringue cookies!  Those take 2 hours to bake and 30 minutes prep and I need to be at Big Dog Supplements no later then 9:30!  Looks like another long day tomorrow!!!  Hope to see you at the bake sale!

Getting Ready

As the week flies by (like they all have been lately) we're getting ready for the bake sale!  There's going to be so many goodies!  I can't wait!!!!  As of now all 4 kittens will be there.  They are all doing so great and seem to be mostly normal little kittens.

Gnomeo is coping well with his one eye.  He no longer falls over and gets stuck on his back.  And he is starting to attack his brother more and more.  He has even tried taking on my Mastiff!!!  Of course my Mastiff is use to kitties and just lays there for the most part, or he gets up and walks away.  My Great Danes aren't allowed to play with the kitties because they are too rough just yet and don't realize their size.  I do have 2 tiny dogs that are allowed to play with the kittens and the kittens seem to like them.  So once they are ready to go to their new homes they'll be dog and cat friendly and kid friendly too!

Currently all four Mice Hunters are sitting at the base of my couch crying to "Daddy" that they aren't getting enough love.  I think this is because he's eating.  :)  Well I'm off to clean litter boxes and make them some more food.  Thanks for reading and hope to see you on Saturday!

Little Characters!

The kittens personalities are coming out more and more now!

Simba still believes he is King of All!  Nothing will change his mind!  He was named Simba by the vet assistant because of his want of attention and his shear will to get it!

Gnomeo has gone from a quiet cuddly little fluff ball to a "white hot snaring ball of terror."  At least I think that's how the show put it.  :)  Since his surgery he is feeling SO much better and is learning quickly how to run around with only one eye that can only see somewhat.  He will wind up on his back sometimes and get stuck and remind me of a turtle!  He knows he can't see as well as some of this litter mates, but he's learning to deal with that.  Pretty sure he'll be trying to take Simba's King of All title soon.

Purdy is a two sided cat.  She can be super cuddly and pur for you like there's no tomorrow then 5 seconds later be ripping around the room jumping and attacking things!  She's getting much better with not being able to fully see, but her eyesight has improved a lot I think!  I had her ranked as the 2nd worst in the beginning and now she's 2nd best.  She MAY need surgery to remove an eye, but I'm thinking she might not.  The eye has come back and seems to be doing much better.

Helen Keller of Troy is a quiet reserve little kitty.  She is happy with just sitting on your lap being petted.  She is the one with the worst sight.  :(  She doesn't seemed bothered by it at all though.  Maybe because she doesn't know any better.  I believe she will need an eye removed.  The one seems dead.  There's no life in it and it's doesn't respond to anything.  Not only that, but she can't completely close her eye.  So it is dried out all the time in one spot.  Luckily the meds she's on now are keeping it moist and from needing removal at this time, but I think it will have to come out in the next month.  So that's another vet bill.  Hopefully the bake sale will raise enough money for Gnomeo and Helen's surgeries.

Well that's my updates for now and I will get some pictures up of the ever quickly growing mice hunters.  Once I can figure out why with brand new batteries my camera has no power!!!  And no, I'm not putting them in backwards....I tried every way they could go in.  :)

Thanks for reading!

Gnomeo Post Surgery Update

There's Gnomeo a few hours after his surgery.  He was pretty out of it last night but today he has been a little ball of energy!  He seems to be feeling much better now and no longer has a fever!  We think he can still see some out of his other eye since he'll follow you around a bit.  His whiskers were trimmed down on left side (the side his eye was removed) and that seems to be messing with him a bit.  Hopefully they will grow out quickly and he'll start doing much better with his walking!

I considered posting a before picture, but it's pretty nasty and I know what it's like to be looking at happy-ish kitten pictures and WHAM!!!  Nasty eye photo, then the what's that Momma? question and the poor kitty sobs.  Yup, that would be my daughter.  LOL.  :)  I will have before pictures at the bake sale if you want to check them out though!  Poor little Gnomeo!

Sorry It's Been Awhile!

Ok, sorry for lacking in updates!  Gnomeo is currently at the vet waking up after an eye removal surgery.  He or one of his siblings clawed him in the eye and it went from there.  So he is now a one eyed kitty!  I get to pick him up in a few hours and bring him on home to recover.  Luckily the vet has worked with me on the price and a payment plan!  I now need to raise $200 to cover the surgery and the meds the kittens need.  All of the kittens currently need the meds to keep their eyes from needing surgery.  We are hoping soon their eyes will be normal-ish and they won't need the meds anymore.  Until then it's about $20- $25 a week for the meds.  On the 27th there will be a bake sale to help raise money for the vet bills!  So come on out to Big Dog Supplements on August 27th fro 10- 4 and get yourself a baked goodie for a $1 or just donate!  I am hoping the kittens will be fine and can attend the bake sale and get to meet everyone!  I will be posting pictures of Gnomeo a little later tonight and am still working on getting YouTube and my blog to play nice enough to get a video of the kittens up!  Please share the bake sale info and let your friends know!!!

Growing Quickly!

The kittens are growing so quickly!  They went from kinda walking around to running, well all except for Helen.  I believe she is completely blind.  She tries to stay near walls or not to go anywhere at all.  And she walks in circles a lot.  The others can see to some extent.  I plan on getting videos of them tonight.  They are eating currently and that makes for a messy video with a lot of growling.  :)

Purdy follows me when she's allowed out of the bathroom (they're still babies and remember new scents and places confuse them).  She seems to be able to track me pretty well until I get a decent ways away from her!  I'm so happy that she can see at least that much.

Gnomeo attempts to follow his brother Simba around, when he can keep up with him.  He is sweet and active and now trying to jump out of his sleeping box when he wants attention.

Helen is distant and is scared easily.  I would be too if I couldn't see and something came along and picked me up to move me from place to place and I didn't have my mom to make me feel better.  And this thing that picks her up has to put drops in her eyes 4 times a day too, which she doesn't seem to like.

Simba is a pretty normal kitten.  He attempts to leap at you and escape his sleeping box.  He wants to run and play with other animals, he is also very cuddly and very demanding when he wants the cuddles!  He's a sweet boy.

So there's today's update.  I will work on getting videos of them all tonight and post those so you can see the kittens in action!

Wish List

I know it's going to take a lot to teach these kittens how to deal with not seeing and still being as normal as they can be.  I read that you should make each wall with different smells so that they know where they are in the house.  I think I will attempt this, but a little differently.  I will make each room it's own smell since as of now the kittens seem to be able to at least see enough to not smack into walls.  So hopefully they keep some of their sight.

So the kittens current wish list is:

Any size bag of Purina ONE Healthy Kitten Formula Cat Food.  I need to stick with the same food for them because different smells confuse them to no end.  I have already seen this when adding kitten food to their formula mash.  This is at PetsMart

Seventh Generation 2X Concentrated Blue Eucalyptus and Lavender Natural Laundry Detergent- At Walmart and maybe other stores as well.  This is for JUST their bedding, that way it smells the same all the time and they have a soothing scent.

Tidy Cat Scoopable (is that even a word) Litter in any type.

Any bedding you want to donate.  Old towels, blankets, or a cat bed.  :)

Any cat toys, maybe with cat nip so they can smell them???

Gift Cards to PetsMart, Petco, Walmart, or Target are awesome.

Money to go towards any vet bills that are going to happen would be GREAT!!!  Maybe I should see about getting a nifty PayPal button thingy on here.

Any and all items can be dropped off or mailed to:
3 Blind Mice Hunters and Their Brother

If you drop it off it's Big Dog Supplements, you'll see the sign.  Thank you for reading and don't feel like you have to donate anything at all!

Introducing The 3 Blind Mice Hunters and Their Brother!

I am a foster parent for a local animal rescue group, because of this I have received 3 mostly blind kittens and their brother.  They are about 4 weeks old and we don't know where the mother is.

A nice lady named Tiffany found the poor little kittens and was not able to keep them so she did the right thing and found someone to help her.  At 10:15 on a Monday morning we met up and I got the kittens.  I took them to a vet who was able to see them right away and was extremely helpful and so nice.  He gave me drops to put in the kittens eyes 4 times a day to clear up the virus that was the cause of their eye issues.  They had goo all over their eyes that no matter how much you cleaned off just kept coming.  The 2 girls had one dried up eye that didn't look like an eye at all!  Really nasty.  I did not take any pictures of them at this point in their lives because, well I couldn't look at it for too long.

I have had the babies for 3 days now and they look so much better!  The dried up eyes are full and no longer 1/2 the size they should be.  They could and will probably still need surgery to remove the eyes.  so without further mindless typing here are the stars!

This would be the brother, we call him Simba
